We’ve all be stuck inside for a little while now, and while there seems to be no end in sight for our new-found quarantine, this is the perfect opportunity to discover the perfect place to enjoy a book from the comfort of your own home.

Everyone’s homes should be somewhere they can relax and enjoy reading – but we all know everyone’s homes are different, so what works for one person, may not work for another one. Below are a list of places I feel you can make you own little reading sanctuary, and while everyone may not have the space for all of them, there should be at least one or two on here you can make work for you and your house!

Sofa

First and foremost – your sofa! Now, everyone has a different taste in sofas, and you may be living in rented accommodation or with family and so haven’t yet got the sofa of your dreams – but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it work!

The trick to making a perfect cosy spot on the sofa is the right accessories – be that cushions or blankets, you can make even the most lumpy, ugly sofa be warm and comfy for you and your book! Occasionally I also like to play instrumental music in the background to give myself some company and I also thinks it’s important to have the right beverage – a cup of tea or something more refreshing like some lemonade!

Bath

I love a good bath – pretty much all year round I will have at least one bath a week, and more importantly, I love escaping into a book while I enjoy my bath. Again, a bath may not be something everyone has, but if you do, then here’s a quick checklist for the perfect cosy bath:
– Bath caddy
– Good beverage
– Bath bomb/bath salts/bubble bath – something to make it fun!
– Candles or incense

I also think its imperative to get the temperature right – you don’t want it to be so hot you go light headed, but you also don’t want it to go cold too quickly. Personally, I think the best tactic is to be in the bath while it’s running, that way your body can get used to the heat but also you can adjust as you need to rather than coming back when it’s full only to find it’s boiling hot or freezing cold! Also, it’s important to stay hydrated when you have a bath so I always have a glass of water to hand too.

Armchair

I am very fortunate to have just moved house and now have my very own little reading room with a really cosy armchair. Now again, not everyone’s houses may be large enough to have an armchair, or again, you may not be living somewhere with your own furniture yet, but if you do have an armchair, here’s how to make it a cosy reading spot:

As with your sofa, make sure you’ve got the right accessories. So cushions, blankets, even a footstool if you need one to be comfortable; if you’ve got a page-turner in your hands, you don’t want to be so uncomfortable you have to stop reading!

Also it’s important to get some good lights. If your lamp means that you have to strain your eyes to read the book, then that’s just no good. I like to double up, so I have both a lamp and fairy lights lit when I’m reading so that I know it won’t be a strain on my eyes.

Bed

With my bed, it’s again all about accessories and beverages. Make sure you’ve got enough pillows behind you and your favourite drink to hand as well!

But, the most important thing to have for a comfy bed is a good mattress. Mine is from ComfaSleep and ever since I started sleeping on it, I have never slept better! But, not only that, it’s the perfect accompaniment to making my bed the perfect reading spot as it’s the perfect firmness and was built just for my body shape and requirements. Their SleepFit® technology meant that I entered some basic information about myself and my partner, such as our height, weight, and any medical conditions or joint pains, and they gave me the mattress which was perfect for us!

Even when we’re both in bed, if I want to get lost in a book, I can’t feel my partner’s movements next to me so I’m able to relax and enjoy the world of my current read.

Also, until the end of the month, you can get 40% off a mattress with the code AMY, so make sure you head to ComfaSleep’s website and get yourself the perfect night’s sleep!

Pin this for later!

So there you have it! I hope this was helpful and I hope you can all find the perfect indoor reading spot in your house!
